Before getting to know about Mindful Parenting, let’s understand mindfulness,
In simple words, Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment and accepting it without any judgment.
Mindfulness can be practiced while one is walking, breathing, eating, playing, sitting, anything. It never needs one to move to the mountains or stay in solitude.
Coming to the parenting style, it implies when with kids, be with kids. Instead of getting overwhelmed by emotions, focus on your consciousness. Just like a child focuses on the army of ants marching across the garden forgetting the world.
Mindfulness can be included in daily life with little practice. It can be hard to be mindful the entire day, keeping every sense awake. Gradually adopting it as a lifestyle grows itself in life. Stay aware of your surround, let the mind free and live in the moment.
Mindful parenting is a practice, lifelong. One becomes less attached to the end result. More mindful of what’s unfolding in the life of self and children. Mindful parenting is about being in the moment, big-hearted and neutral.
It’s about accepting children the way they are without enforcing a parent’s expectations and desires.
As I continue to write letters, I reflect on the growing sense of kindness. Not the passive, be-nice-to-everyone kind, but the kind that comes with boundaries.
